Jess has been on the trail of his father, Eddie Sloan, for two years; but his father has always been one step ahead of him. When Jess finally gets him in his sights, he is detoured once again by a call for help.

Marshall Frank Reedy is locked up in jail in Timber, Texas, and Sheriff Mark Steele is near death from an ambush. Jess heads to Timber and into a bloody range war between two cattle barons.
